Bendigo Eisteddfod – 26 May 2013

The Band played at the 88th Annual Bendigo Eisteddfod in May this year.

It was a great chance to experience the thrills and spills of competition, to hear some great brass bands from around Victoria, and to get get some really valuable feedback on our performance from adjudicator Ken McDonald.

The results of the day can be found here. Congratulations to Maryborough City Brass Band who won our division, and to all the bands we heard on the day.

Here are some snaps we took in the warm up room before we went on stage:

Ballarat Heritage Weekend – 11-12 May 2013

Heritage Weekend is another one of the band’s favourite gigs for the year.  It’s such a great weekend with loads of activities all over town which bring people from far and wide.

The band were given the pleasure of playing on the balcony of the George Hotel during the weekend, overlooking the beautiful and historic streetscape of Lydiard Street.

Here are some photos from this year’s playout:

We also had a display at the Town Hall during the weekend which detailed the rich history of the band and showed some of the historic items we have in our collection.

Begonia Festival Parade – 11 March 2013

One of the great things about being a member of the Ballarat Brass Band is that you get to play at some great local events throughout the year.

One of our favourites is the Begonia Festival parade, which takes place on the Monday of the Labour Day long weekend in March each year.

This year’s parade was held in baking hot weather, but despite the heat a huge crowd turned up to enjoy the colour, costumes and festive atmosphere.

Here’s a photo taken before the parade began as the band was about to get into marching formation:

Ballarat Courier photographer Justin Whitelock took some great photos during the parade. I’ll post a couple of them here, but please check out the full photo gallery at the Courier web site here.

It’s always great to be involved in the Begonia Festival, when the sun is shining and Ballarat is looking magnificent.
